I have seen enough of this mind-set, from very close at hand, to know that this portrait is not exaggerated. But one thing the author might have added is that Christian fascism is a reaction to culture changes since the 1960s that have put traditional values are under threat from Hollywood, the media, and much of the academic and political world.
Just as in Europe in the 1930s, two sides each see themselves under critical threat from others who have all the power. Well, it must be fear; it certainly ain’t love!

Dr. James Luther Adams, my ethics professor at Harvard Divinity School, told his students that when we were his age — he was then close to 80 — we would all be fighting the “Christian fascists.”
The warning, given 25 years ago, came at the moment Pat Robertson and other radio and television evangelists began speaking about a new political religion that would direct its efforts toward taking control of all institutions, including mainstream denominations and the government. Its stated goal was to use the United States to create a global Christian empire.
