Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins and Paul Potts
Paul Potts Given a Standing Ovation
Lancishire Evening Post, 8th July
Reality television sensation Paul Potts was given a rapturous welcome during his first live performance since being elevated to stardom.
The mobile phone salesman and winner of Britain’s Got Talent sang during a special one-off opera concert in the grounds of Margam Park in South Wales.
The venue, attended by more than 5,000 people, is only a few miles from the 36-year-old’s home town of Port Talbot.
He performed after accepting a personal invitation from the award-winning Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins, who hopes to make the concert, billed as Katherine in the Park, an annual event.
Jenkins began proceedings and got the crowd on her side by saying: “There are two kinds of people in this world; people who are Welsh and people who wish they were Welsh.”
She sang Nella Fantasia and Somewhere before introducing Potts as the winner of “Wales’s Got Talent”.
“I’m thrilled he could join us,” said Jenkins. “This is going to be his first ever live performance. I love him and he is the star of stage and screen and also the Carphone Warehouse!”
Potts began by singing Cavatina and finished with the aria which made him famous, Nessun Dorma, which was received with applause from the opening notes and a standing ovation at the end.
Before leaving stage he said: “I would like to thank Katherine for inviting me and … to all of you guys.”
Also performing was Peruvian Juan Diego Florez who is considered to be one of the finest opera talents in the world. He joined Jenkins for a duet on Only Make Believe.

Paul; Your voice is magnificent! I already prepaid your CD from Amazon.com. I wish you well in your new career! It will be wonderful. It is my understanding that you sang in the presence of Signore Pavarotti. Did he say anything about your voice. If not, he should have.
