In going through old postings, I found this from last year. Addressed primarily to my fellow alums at The Monroe Institute, nonetheless it should have interest for the general public, I should think.

For years I had been worried because the generation that knew Bob was dying off, and the story was still untold. I could just imagine 30 years going by, and someone writing a biography, not having known him, not having known the reality of the early days of the Institute, not having known who was reliable and who was not reliable as a source of information about those days, perhaps not having any first-hand experience of Hemi-Sync, perhaps not knowing one person who actually knew Bob or knew of what had gone on in the many aspects of Bob’s life.

New research challenges long-held assumptions of flightless bird evolution

Large flightless birds of the southern continents – African ostriches, Australian emus and cassowaries, South American rheas and the New Zealand kiwi – do not share a common flightless ancestor as once believed.

Instead, each species individually lost its flight after diverging from ancestors that did have the ability to fly, according to new research conducted in part by University of Florida zoology professor Edward Braun.

The new research, which appears this week in the online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, has several important implications.

I like Ron Paul’s ideas and respect his sincerity. Some of the company he keeps makes me nervous - Grover Norquist, for instance - but in this it reminds me of the genesis of the Republican party in 1854. The Republicans knitted together Whigs, anti-slavery Democrats, Know-nothings, and a whole ragtag and bobtail coalition - and won the White House in 1860 primarily to do one thing: to stop the endless erosion of the barriers to the spread of slavery.

Dare we hope that the same process is occurring around us today? Clearly, the Democrats as constituted and the Republicans as constituted neither one support individual freedom, economic opportunity, limited government, a curtailment of militarism and disguised imperialism, or an end to overseas adventures. That being so, how much difference is there between the, other than that Democrats are somewhat less efficient in expanding Big Brother’s domain?
