Hi Summer Rain, HPRC, and Others,
I first heard of this book, Summer Rain, and No-Eyes from the NBC series "Ancient Prophecies" that aired in 4 parts from 1994 thru 1996. Summer Rain was featured in Ancient Prophecies #1 which aired in March 1994 & again in April 1994. The video should still be available.
I finally bought the book in September 1994. My copy is the 1993/1987 PB by HPRC which seems to have different page numbers in the 1st PB edition (I bought a used one of it). I must say, I am impressed with Summer Rain's abilty to retain all that No-Eyes shared, and then years later put in a book to share. And for HPRC to keep it available & in print. THe book is fantastic & draws you right in as if beside them both as No-Eyes was conveying. Now for a few other comments.
I hope HPRC or someone passes this on to Summer Rain. Tell her its from an old friend. Using the 1993 PB, as to reference on page numbers, here goes.
In "Ancient Prophecies" #3 which aired in February 1996 (Video should still be available by NBC or Greystone), is one Native American prophetic note. It is by Jake Swamp, a member of the Mohawk tribe. He says a "There will be a great noise. It will shake up the whole world because it will be so loud." He is speaking of No-Eyes' "Phoenix".
No-Eyes thru Summer Rain, tells of the Phoenix "speaking". On pages 108-113, terms like terrible screech noises, great wail, wail loud, screech loud & long, are used. On page 158, its first wail is noted. So maybe there are more than one occurrence. Probably so.
I told you of the other reference, now perhaps another is due. In the Greek Apocalypse of Baruch chapters 6-8 (one source is 'The Apocryphal Old Testament' edited by H.F.D. Sparks in 1984 HB by Oxford- Clarendon Press. p.908-909), Baruch is shown the great Phoenix, he hears its cry & asked what is this cry of the Phoenix. He is told the Phoenix is the bird that wakes up the cocks on earth.
I guess while I'm at it, I may as well tell you of the rest of the story. It is found in 'The Legends of the Jews' Vol.4 by Louis Ginzberg, pages 585-. I am using the 1998 John Hopkins PB edition, but it is in the older HB versions too on pp. 195-235, such as a 1913 reprint. These things are also found in the 1956/1975 HB condensed version, pages 585-603. It condenses the 7 volumes into one. It concerns Elijah & his return as the forerunner before the Messiah. On p.233, Elijah is to "utter a lament over the devastation of the Holy Land, and his wail will be heard throughout the world."
Also see Malachi 4, as it concerns the resending of Elijah. So now you know, the Phoenix is Elijah, or visa versa- Elijah is the Phoenix.
