Lost in Las Vegas
a novel
by: Monty Joynes

White Wing, the future spiritual leader of a diminishing Pueblo tribe, is one of the southwest's best ritual dancers. He dances with such dignity and skill that he transcends this world like a sacred eagle, filled with grace and light. Lured by the excesses of modern society, he uses his power of dancing for monetary gain rather than to fulfill the spiritual needs of his tribe. White Wing loses himself in the glitter and glamour of Las Vegas.

Winn Conover, who first appeared in the novel Naked Into the Night, and now called "Anglo" by his adopted tribe, is called upon by the tribe's Elders to rescue White Wing from Las Vegas. Fulfilling ancient Native prophecy that white people will join forces with, and help save Native spirituality, Anglo enters the hedonistic world to retrieve and guide, a lost and sacred son. Ultimately, Lost in Las Vegas is a shared vision quest which reveals the path home, not only for White Wing and Anglo, but for all of us.

Joynes's adventure in writing Naked into the Night and Lost in Las Vegas brought him to the Pueblo people; his respect for their heritage and challenges in contemporary life required extensive research into their culture and history.  After four years of research and writing three books (Save the Good Seed expected in 1999), Joynes has emerged as knowledgeable and sympathetic about the differences between native and western cultures:

"Joynes has a remarkable grasp of Indian history and current life. Few have the insights into Indian affairs that he possesses.  I am amazed how accurately he presents modern Indians in their typical settings. "
—Ted Zuern, S. J., Lobbyist for Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions

Joynes has been a magazine editor, journalist, radio talk show host, publisher, and a self-employed businessman.  He initiated and co-authored the initial Insiders' Guide series of  books which have since become a national series.  Joynes resides in North Carolina with his wife, Pat.
