     In 1986 the State of California passed Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, that, among many precedent-setting regulations, now requires dentists to post vital information that informs their patients of possible toxic effects of certain amalgams used in dentistry. But, unfortunately, this law does not require your dentist to actively discuss and advise you as to what alternatives are available and what steps need to be taken to insure your good health. In many states, a dentist may lose his license if he advises his patients about the harmful effects of mercury poisoning. Patients need to become informed about all the dangers of “silver” mercury before they see their dentist in order to be better able to ask the right questions that dentists can legally answer.
