Mind at Large
IEEE Symposia on the Nature of Extrasensory Perception
by: Harold E. Puthoff & Russell Targ
A History of Psychic Precognition
The Reality Behind Minority Report’s Future-Crime Fighters

In this 21st Century, we should not have to argue about the reality of psychic abilities. Movies such as Minority Report are testament to the interest that society has in precognitive abilities. The facts to support psychic phenomenon are out there—the military has successfully employed remote viewers to locate nuclear warheads, and police often depend on psychics to hunt down criminals and locate missing children. And yet, this natural human ability for psychic perception is still considered forbidden by the western scientific gatekeepers.

Originally printed in 1979, Mind at Large generated enormous controversy. For many scientists, it was their first exposure to the fact that serious psychic research was being conducted by credible scientists and at respectable institutions. The studies offered compelling evidence linking the human psyche to other fields of consciousness through experiments conducted under strictly controlled laboratory conditions. To some it simply confirmed what they had always known but had been afraid to ask, and to others it was beyond the laws of physics, and despite the plausible data, was scientifically unacceptable.

Compared with the enormity of the questions posed and the research conducted since the seventies, our knowledge of psychic phenomena is very small. As scientific progress continues to expand our understanding of this natural human function, we can open our minds to the possibilities beyond this reality.

Hampton Roads in partnership with consciousness research pioneer Russell Targ is proud to bring Mind at Large and other groundbreaking texts back into print with our Studies in Consciousness series. The aim is to introduce these classic metaphysical texts to a new generation of readers that are seeking to expand their own awareness of parapsychological studies.
