Ordinary working caregivers are trapped by the need to work, inadequate insurance, minimal social services and virtually no direction on how to handle care giving in the home.

Madonna Siles relates her story, part memoir, part recovery manual of her friend Eve’s near-fatal brain aneurysm in Brain, Heal Thyself. This book will prove to be a guidebook for shell-shocked caregivers who are often untrained and unprepared for this daunting task. With humor and warmth and arresting honesty the author recounts the moment-by-moment journey from near-fatal aneurysm, stroke and seizure to near-miraculous recovery.

After the trauma of four grueling months of hospitalization, and three months of out-patient rehabilitation this is a story of taking Eve home when she is significantly disabled physically, mentally and emotionally, and incapable of minimal self-care after she had gained all the health-professional proclaimed she could from conventional therapy. Desperate to help her friend Madonna developed a holistic rehabilitation plan, drawing on her experience as a practitioner of A.A.’s 12-step program and personal knowledge of subconscious communication techniques. She learned about the amazing power of the subconscious, and various methods to invoke its help in the healing process, primarily from her friend and co-author Lawrence J. Beuret, M.D. Madonna’s thirty year career in the advertising business gave her the courage to creatively combine her knowledge and experience into the “program” that helped save her friend from an invalid existence and her own sanity as a caregiver. Eve made a remarkable recovery to 90% of original capacity within a two-year period.

This is the first anecdotal report on how the subconscious mind can be recruited into healing the brain from the devastation caused by a brain aneurysm, stoke and seizures.
